Early Language Intervention offers pre-school to children to the age of 6 who have a speech and language delay or disorder. Our pre-school focuses on the language needs of children and all instruction is aimed at the development of language and play.
The pre-school offers a structured approach to language learning. All of the child's time is accounted for in a routine that includes circle time, small group sessions, snacks and story time. Specifically, the pre-school focuses on receptive and expressive language, labeling, intraverbals, motor imitation, requests, and syntax and grammar. Augmentative and alternative communication systems (e.g. Picture Exchange, Sign) are also utilized along with verbal language for child with special communication needs. To ensure maximum language growth and development, the principles of applied behaviour analysis are incorporated into our pre-school setting.
Upon admittance to the program, your child’s language and functional skills are assessed. Individual education plans (IEPs) are then created targeting your child’s particular needs. All pre-school instruction is provided in either a group (approximately 11 children) or small group format (3 - 5 children). Your child’s progress is recorded on a daily basis and language assessments occur every 6 months. This allows us to measure your child’s progress and update their IEP goals as necessary. The staff-student ratio in the Pre-School Programme is 3:11.
The playgroup runs for 2 ˝ hours per day, five days per week. see schedule
